Lions serve. It’s that simple, and it has been since we first began in 1917. Our clubs are places where individuals join together to give their valuable time and effort to improving their communities and the world.
Lions work together to serve blind, vision impaired and needy clients, to raise funds for their charitable activities, and to conduct club business. Individual clubs meet on a regular schedule to plan and carry out their activities, for fun and fellowship, and (usually) for a meal and a program of general interest. Each year, most clubs hold one or more fund raisers for the general public.
While each Lions club has its own service focus, there are five global causes of particular interest around the world. These are areas of need identified, and voted on, by members and supported by our association and foundation. Our focus areas are: Diabetes, Environment, Hunger, Childhood Cancer, Disaster Relief, Humanitarian Needs and Vision.
Lions Clubs International (LCI) is a 501(c)(4) tax-exempt social welfare organization and is not eligible to accept or solicit charitable donations. All donations accepted on lionsclubs.org support Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF), which is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt public charitable organization. LCI and LCIF are EEO providers. Individual Lions clubs hold fundraisers such as crab feeds, restaurant walks, garage sales, barbecues, walk-a-thon, bowl-a-thon, carnivals and contributions.
